Intro

If a patient has need for secondary prevention of stable cardiovascular disease with an indication for an anticoagulant, should the patient have an Anti platelet?

No, if an indication for anticoagulant exists it is indicated that anticoagulant monotherapy is given without the addition of antiplatelets

For patients on Anti platelets who develop Venous thromboembolism what should be done with their Anti platelet when starting treatment for the VTE?

an ORBIT score should be calculated. Those with a low risk of bleeding may continue antiplatelets. In patients with an intermediate or high risk of bleeding consideration should be given to stopping the antiplatelets

Dipyridamole

.

What is Dipyridamole?

an antiplatelet

What is the MOA of Dipyridamole?

  • inhibits phosphodiesterase, elevating platelet cAMP levels which in turn reduce intracellular calcium levels
  • inhibition of thromboxane synthase

What is the interaction of Dipyridamole and adenosine?

it reduces cellular uptake of adenosine
