a complex multisystem disorder associated with presumed autoimmune-mediated inflammation of the arteries and veins
What is the classic triad of symptoms of Behcet's syndrome?
oral ulcers, genital ulcers and anterior uveitis
What groups is Behcet's syndrome more common in?
- eastern Mediterranean
- men
- tends to affect young adults
What are the symptoms of Behcet's syndrome?
- classically: 1) oral ulcers 2) genital ulcers 3) anterior uveitis
- thrombophlebitis and deep vein thrombosis
- arthritis
- neurological involvement (e.g. aseptic meningitis)
- GI: abdo pain, diarrhoea, colitis
- erythema nodosum
How is Behcet's syndrome diagnosed?
- no definitive test
- diagnosis based on clinical findings
- positive pathergy test is suggestive
